Possible Record-Setting Python Killed In Miami-Dade County
February 5, 2014
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY (CBSMiami) – A giant python that was found and killed Tuesday may be the largest python ever caught in the state of Florida.
The man who killed the python, Bobby Hill, was on a levee 5 miles north of Tamiami Trail just west of Krome Avenue when he came across the 18-foot, 2-inch snake on the levee.
Hill, who gets rid of the pythons for a living, shot and killed the massive snake. The body is now on its way to the University of Florida to be studied, which is where a lot of the pythons caught and killed in South Florida end up.
The previous record for largest snake ever caught in Florida was believed to be 17-feet, 7-inches long and weighed 164.5 pounds. That snake was also pregnant with a record 87 eggs.
The 18-foot, 2-inch python killed Tuesday was also a female and would break the previous record for largest snake ever killed by seven inches.
